A little more about Doulas…

Hopefully now you’re getting a sense of who I am and what support I can provide for you and your family, but if you’re still not sure if Doula support is right for you, here’s a bit more information about the benefits of working with a Doula.

A Cochrane qualitative evidence synthesis carried out in 2019, which complements a previous Cochrane review published in 2017, explored the effect of continuous support for women during childbirth. The outcomes of this study showed:

  • 39% decreased likelihood of an emergency/unplanned caesarean birth

  • 15% increased likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth

  • 10% decrease in the use of medications for pain management

  • 41 minutes shorter labour overall

  • 38% decrease in the baby’s risk of a low five minute APGAR score*

  • 31% decreased likelihood of being dissatisfied with the birth experience

*The 5-minute APGAR test is a quick assessment of a new-born’’s heart rate, breathing, muscle tone, reflexes, and skin colour to evaluate their overall health shortly after birth.

If a Doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it

Whenever and however you give birth, your experience will impact your emotions, your mind, your body and your spirit for the rest of your life.
